Trial Instructional Flight  (TIF)
 Your First Flight

Explore the possibility of learning to fly by taking advantage of your
Trial Instructional Flight.
The TIF offers you the opportunity to understand how a pilot controls the aircraft and gives you the chance to see and feel this experience for yourself.
This is an unforgettable moment.

Your TIF has three parts:
1. Pre flight briefing.
2. Your flight where you're in the pilot's seat. (flight is approximately half an hour)
3. Post flight de-brief to answer your questions and your opportunity to join RPA and aim toward becoming a pilot.
In the Pre flight briefing, you are instructed on the various types of aircraft, how and why they fly.

The effects of lift, drag and thrust and an explanation of the 'angle of attack'.

You will see the importance of stability, control, instruments & navigational aids, and communications equipment.

You get to familiarise yourself with the cockpit flight instruments & controls, their use and significance.

How does the pilot navigate?
With weather, wind drift, and other influences, it could be easy to fly off course. There are no road signs up there to point you in the right direction, so how does the pilot ensure the aircraft is on track?

Learn how the pilot communicates and the importance of clear, concise, professional communication.

 The Trial Instructional Flight

Once you have arrived at the Recreational Pilots Academy and your instructor has conducted your briefing and answered your questions, the next step is to accompany your instructor to the aircraft and perform a Pre-Flight Inspection of the aircraft.

Get into the aircraft, check your hatches (doors) and harnesses (seat belts), headset, pre-start checks and start the engine, only after calling "Clear Prop".
After performing radio checks you start taxiing.

Soon you are taking off, climbing and arriving at your cruising altitude. Your instructor shows you the most important aspect of flying - 'attitude'.
Once you have been shown the fundamentals of the controls, your instructor demonstrates how to use them to set the aircraft 'attitude'. This is simply the position of the nose of the aircraft in relation to the horizon. It is the 'picture' you see through the windscreen.

After being shown the fundamentals of level flight, climbing and turning you will return to the airfield, and descend to 'join' the circuit.

Finally, you approach and land, followed by a de-brief with your instructor chatting about what you have just done and answering any questions you may have.  This is your opportunity to purchase the Student Pilot Kit and to join the RPA team and begin your journey of becoming a Pilot.

We hope you've been bitten by the aviation bug! So many of us have, and it all started with a TIF.
